In October 2006 Lexmark introduced the E series, the first series to feature printhead technology that used a miniature pivoting mirror to reduce moving parts within the printer. The E250 prints at up to 30 pages per minute (ppm), while the E350, E352 and E450 at up to 35 ppm.

One month later IBM followed with their version of the E352, the InfoPrint 1612 Express. The InfoPrint 1622 Express was also released in November as the equivalent of the E450. Both models print at up to 35 ppm. Dell and Toshiba also have their versions, the 30 ppm 1720 (E250 variant) and the 35 ppm e-Studio 350P (E352/E450 variant) respectively.

All printers in the series utilize separate toner and drum units. Toner cartridges require a new chip in order to function correctly. Supplies are offered in varying yields and in use and return and non-return versions.
